Somatic Emotional Release Techniques I Use

I use what is called Emotional Release Therapy that integrates breathing, muscle testing and forgiveness statements to help the individual locate, identify and release old stories and emotions during sessions. I empower my clients to give their body permission to let go of the old story and have freedom and calmness in the body and nervous system.

Why Emotional Stress Gets Stored in the Body

Our bodies store emotional stress due to every day life experiences. Our bodies learn to stay safe from danger and threats by storing the old feelings and emotions so that we can access them again when needed. These emotions are often heightened during stress and can cause us distress and discomfort emotionally and physically. The release of these stuck or trapped emotions is then able to give us freedom to not “feel” the same way after the treatment. When the trauma of the emotions is released it also calms down our nervous system and regulates our body.

Emotional Release Therapy vs Talk Therapy

This modality works beautifully with specific issues as well as general support in your life helping reduce overwhelming emotions and creating a calmer nervous system.  We don’t work specifically with the past with the goal of understanding it - we notice what happened in the past and we acknowledge and release it. This technique used in tandem with talk therapy is a wonderful tool to work though systemic issues that are coming up regularly during talk therapy.

With a Master’s in Health Promotion, a Bachelor’s in Community Development, and multiple certifications in counseling, trauma release, and wellness practices, I have a solid background in supporting the whole human. What to expect in a session


We begin the sessions with empathy dialog, talking and dreaming about how you want to feel and react to negative emotions in your life.

And I always ask my clients clarifying questions and how they’d like to feel after the session.

Next we muscle test what predominant emotion is happening and then find the original time that emotion showed up in your life and the old belief system behind it. 

We then do some deep breathing along with "forgiveness statements" which is the letting go of the old stories, pain and way of being stuck.

Lastly we end the session with freedom, peace and calmness.
